Principal Welcome

Welcome to the new Merbein P-10 College website.

This website is designed to provide detailed information to our school community on how our school operates. The website outlines the comprehensive curriculum that is offered by our school and will also enable parents, students and visitors to be informed about the wide range of extra-curricular activities that are enjoyed by our students.

Merbein P-10 College was formed in 2010 with an enrolment of 723 students as the result of a historical decision of 3 local primary schools and the local secondary college to merge into a single school. An integral part of the merger is a commitment to construct new facilities on the site of the original secondary campus. Work on Stage 1 ($10.5 million project) commenced in late 2010, and all of the primary children will migrate onto the one site when work is completed in the second half of 2012.

The new Stage 1 facilities will feature flexible and open learning spaces that are designed to support teachers to work in professional teams to share planning, model best-practice and build the capacity of teachers to provide a 21st Century learning environment that will meet the learning needs of every student. Stage 2 will involve the construction of new Science, Technology, Library, Canteen, Gymnasium and Administrative facilities. Confirmation of funding for the second stage is yet to be announced.

Although the process of combining four schools into one is challenging, we are excited about how much has already been achieved. There is a high-level of collaboration between all staff in the planning, delivery and assessment of curriculum. Students from all of the campuses regularly interact for joint learning, camps and excursions.

In a relatively short time, a new uniform has been collaboratively chosen and is now being proudly worn by the majority of students from Prep through to Year 10. The school has also adopted a new Motto: “Successful Students – Strong Communities” along with a set of agreed values - Quality, Respect and Responsibility.   We believe our motto and chosen values reflect the aspirations of our community and will provide a strong foundation that will support our students to become successful citizens of the future.

To further prepare our students for a digital future, students from Year 3 through to Year 10 have 1:1 netbook devices. The new learning spaces will feature rich-ICT environment that will enable a range of digital technologies to be used in powerful and innovative ways to enrich learning and improve the educational outcomes of all students.

I trust your tour of our web site is interesting and enjoyable.
