At Merbein P-10, we understand that starting school is an exciting and important time for you and your child or children and we want to help make the enrolment process as easy as possible for you.
2025 Foundation (Prep) Enrolments
The Department of Education has released an updated statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline for the 2025 school year.
The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Merbein P-10 College.
All government primary schools will follow the timeline in 2024 to support Foundation (Prep) enrolments for the 2025 school year.
You can find information and resources about the timeline, including factsheets and a poster at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep). You can also download the ‘Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack for Parents and Carers’ from Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) (available from 15 April 2024).
You will be able to apply to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) 2025 at Merbein P-10 College from 15 April 2024.
What you need to do:
1. Contact our school, Merbein P-10 College, to book a school tour or to learn more about our school and the enrolment application process.
2. Download the Foundation (Prep) enrolment information pack from Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) (available from 15 April 2024). This pack includes an application form, which you can also request from our school.
3. Submit an enrolment application for Foundation (Prep) by Friday 26 July 2024.
4. You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 29 July and Friday 9 August 2024. If you receive an enrolment offer, you should contact our school to accept the offer by Friday 23 August 2024.
5. Take part in enrolment information and transition sessions during Term 4, 2024.
6. Prepare your child to start Foundation (Prep) from Wednesday 29 January 2025.
Enrolment applications submitted after 26 July 2024 will be processed by our school as they are received, in accordance with the department’s Placement Policy.
Year 7 enrolments
Enrolling your child in Year 7 is an important part of their education journey. We want to help you make the transition process as easy as possible. Each year, the department releases Year 6 to Year 7 placement information for schools and for parents/carers, with information packs available from the beginning of Term 2 for students commencing Year 7 the following year. All other enrolments
Information on how to find, enrol, and start a child in your care at a school in Victoria is available on the Victorian government website.
To enrol your child at our school:
1. Phone the college office and make a time to speak with one of our Assistant Principal’s.
2. We will assess eligibility to attend based on our school zone and the Department’s Placement Policy (see the School zones section below for more information)
3. Attend the school tour where / If you are eligible for enrolment, we will provide an enrolment pack (including enrolment form)
4. Submit the Enrolment form and additional required documents (outlined below)
Required documents
Required documentation includes:
· Completed enrolment form
· Evidence of identity and date of birth (for example, a birth certificate or passport)
· Immunisation Status Certificate (primary)
You will also be required to provide information about:
· your contact details
· emergency contact details
· health information about your child (such as allergies or illnesses they need to manage)
· other legal orders relating to your child and their welfare (if any)
Our school zone
Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria. Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is based on your permanent residential address.
Placement Policy
Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school but may enrol at another school, if there are available places. If you apply for a place at a government school that is not your local school, (including ours) the school will consider your application in line with the department’s Placement Policy.
Evidence of Permanent Residence
Parents who wish to enrol their child/children and access their guaranteed place at Merbein P-10 College, need to demonstrate that the child/children to be enrolled reside within the designated neighbourhood boundary area. Please refer to the Residential Address Check for more information. All other out of zone enrolments must also produce proof of permanent residence prior to an enrolment being accepted.
Parent payments
Under the Department of Education and Training’s Parent Payments Policy, Victorian government schools are required to provide transparent information to their school community on voluntary parent/carer contributions.
